PLANNING

Task One

       Everyone

Task Two

This task allowed all group members to express their ideas and creativity on what they want the music video to be like. These ideas would be based on their own work in the initial research stage. After putting all ideas onto the page we pulled out a few ideas that would hopefully make a compelling and interesting storyline. This task was essential as we got to explore everyones ideas as well as including them in our final product so we all had equal contribution.

The main themes in which we would like to include would be the relationship, beach location, creative editing, black and white and band playing in flat.

Mood Board

Task Three

Task Four + Five

By creating a mood board I got to visually understand my initial planning ideas. By viewing my ideas visually it give me an insight on what my actual music video may look like so i could begin to improve my ideas on the storyline.

Not only is it important to visually see the outfit your character will be wearing, but it is important to gain an understanding of why an indie character would be wearing something like that in the first place. Through this task i have realised the importance of an item like a leather jacket and it's relation to the indie genre so it would be essential to include it as we want to be authentic.

Location shoot and footage

Portishead beach:

The Flat:

We chose to base our location at the beach. This location was ideal as the grey tones conveyed misery and depression, these emotions are typically felt by indie rock artists. By doing this our location becomes authentic to the genre. Additionally, our lyrics are quite dark natured juxtaposed with dark toned beach, our location can relate therefore making our audience  have a clearer understanding as well as being authentic to the genre.

Or characters like to escape reality, and as the lyrics state they run away a lot. For someone who likes running away and escaping the beach would be an ideal location for that as it is remote and isolated.

By having the location in the flat our characters get to relate to the audience to a higher extent. Many members of the public wouldnt have a mansion or obtain the same amount of money as an artist would make, so it is good to display a flat as the audience can connect to the characters. Furthermore, displaying the characters in their home makes their music seem more genuine as you see them actually perform their song in their own home.

The Carpark:

Task Six

             Abdoulgani

This carpark will be used for capturing band performances as well as our character dying here at the end. This location was ideal as it looks over the idyllic city of Bristol and we want to portray the band as authentic by sticking to their home roots. By featuring Bristol juxtaposed with our Bristol cast members we will appear more genuine. This location has also been chosen as the death needs to look realistic. Our character needs to be some where high enough so when he jumps off he will actually die so the car park would be ideal for that.

Task Seven

Task Eight

Task Nine

In our research stage we got to understand the typical conventions of an indie rock music video. We got to apply our knowlege and maintain the indie image by including props that are authentic to the genre. If we were to use unusual props it would alter the realism we intend on capturing so we will stick to typical props found in indie rock music videos.

This task was hugely important as it showed us how serious it is to use someones song without their permission. Copyrighting is an illegal action so it essential that we contacted the artist to avoid any hassle.

This task helped us be organised in terms of when we would film and edit. We needed to ensure we would get all work done before the deadlines so we were on time.

This task helped us to visually remember all the scenes and what they would look like so we can easy refer to it when filming our actual music video. We used post it notes so we could rearrange any scenes if we were unhappy with the order. Additionally, we switch between performance and narrative a lot so it was useful having post it notes as we could reuse them and put them in the correct place instead of drawing out loads of performance scenes when it wasn't unnecessary.

Task Ten

Task Eleven

                 Ellie

Task Twelve             Abs

By analysing the song lyrics in depth we got to have a clearer understanding. Understanding the true meaning behind the lyrics is useful as we can make our music video relate to a higher extent, therefore allowing the audience to understand too. Additionally, by linking the lyrics to the music video we can relate to Andrew Goodwins theory of the lyrics being an extension of the music video.

We were adamant on using creative editing techniques to convey meaning. We didnt want to keep on using standard editing methods so instead we searched up some unique ones to incorporate. This task helped us to gain more knowledge on what Adobe Premiere Pro can actually do as well as developing our skill by learning how to perform some new creative techniques to use in the future.

Task Thirteen

                     Ellie

By including the main artists face on the front it gives the song some indentity. The audince will be able to relate to a higher extend by knowing who is behind the actual song. This also promotes the artist.

This image is also a reference to the music video as at the start you can see hope for the couple as there will be loads of scenes of them experiencing happiness. This is why he is facing the front, ready to face the world.

The background will be the beach that is also featured in our music video to set a dark and melancholy mood which is typically seen in indie rock music videos.

Task Fourteen

         Me

Task Fifteen

         Ellie

I tried to portray a hidden meaning with my poster which conforms to typical indie rock conventions as i wanted to be authentic, as well as relating to my music video.

I wanted to convey that the couple in the poster (the couple in my music video as well) stick by each other as they take on the world. It is very much the world against them as they are rebellious and dangerous characters which are also typical traits of an indie rock artist. By including the city in flames that reinforces their rebellion as they literally destroyed every thing with no fear or regret. The no regret is evident as they have taken a seat that looks over the whole city just to observe their work like they would in a cinema. By including the over view of the city i can relate to my music video as some scenes also look over the city.
