This export is towards the end leading up to the main characters death. It focuses on the main reason why Tom decided to jump at the end and that is because his beloved girlfriend dies in his arms.
The things that worked well were the slow tilt up as he is slowly walking lifelessly to his death and the slow tilt really emphasises that. It allows the audience to connect to the emotions felt at this time.
Some creative decisions we will change will be deleting the audio that was accidentally left as it interrupts the scene. Additionally, colour correct the scenes so they have more grey tones so we can truly convey a dark and depressive moment. Also cut to black at the end to indicate that he jumps without stating it.
This export introduces our music video and establishes some key locations we will be exploring further in the video as well as introducing the band.
I love how every shot is slightly panned so all the scenes all flow together nicely in a fluid movement making us instantly embark on the journey with the characters.
The changes to be made are colour corrections to the band scenes in the lounge as it is a very warm and welcoming scene. This is due to the orange and yellow tones and they don't match the overall mood we want to portray.
This export highlights the main reason why the couple started to argue and why it lead them to steal from the shop. This export is essential to understanding the narrative and this is why we didnt put band scenes in between so you could only focus on the narrative.
It was good having the characters argue when the lyrics state "your brothers in the room next door, you got thin walls and i don't want to fight" as it is an extension of the lyrics that supports Andrew Goodwins theory.
To improve we could possibly re-shoot the scene with the phone as it is blurry. We need to clearly convey the lack of money as the realism is taken away when you can hardly see the bank balance.
This export is essential as it displays the scene where the characters go into the shop to steal money. This scene caused so much harm to their lives so again we wanted to focus on it as much as we can so we didnt switch between band scenes.
A creative choice we made that worked really well was having a flash back of their arguments just before they robbed the shop to show they had no other choice than to steal money as they were truly struggling and it was ruining their lives. We indicated the flashback by dipping to white.
To improve, just after this export we could've shot another scene focusing more on the fact that the character got shot so that our music video can be more realistic.
This export explains a lot of questions to help the audience understand better. It shows what the couple stole and shows a close up of the main character singing to establish he is the main singer in the band. We also see another band shot where the band members have changed so that the audience can be confused and therefore keep watching till the end to finally understand he died and had been replaced. This strategy will hopefully allow our audience to engage more.
A thing that went well would be the choice to display the couple running on the chorus as the lyrics state "run away" therefore supporting Andrew Goodwins theory. Also the beat of the chorus gets faster as they start running so we engage with the couple more, and feel similar emotions of adrenaline as they do.
