Task 5
Martin Scorsese
Scorsese is a director that first started off with his first feature length film, Who's That Knocking At My Door in 1967. Since then he has continued to produce many films even up until this current day. Hes produced (how many) but evidently Scorsese is mostly praised for his for crime films that are intricately produced with realism and terror. Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, After Hours, The Departed, Cape Fear, Casino, Gangs Of New York, The Wolf Of Wall Street and most famously, Goodfellas are the crime films he has directed.
Most notorious film
Goodfellas is considered to be one of Scorsese's best and was released in 1990. It was made on a budget of $25 million and grossed $46.8 million. It was nominated for six academy awards, including Best picture and best director and many, many more. Goodfellas contains all the things you would expect in a typical gangster film, fighting, gangs, deaths, drugs and lots of weapons. Real social hardship makes this film so compelling and successful and these components are vital, I will consider this when creating my final film and try to incorporate them.

Task 6
From doing this task i have learnt how gangster films have changed and improved over the decades. I now know about some key aspects that make a gangster film more realistic and compelling. For instance, introducing real social hardships makes the audience really relate and allows them to have a connection with a character on an emotional level. This is something i would love to incorporate into my final film opening.
From this task i have learnt that by running music or dialogue through the credits it helps to make them seem less boring, also if the audience really don't want to watch the credits they can be placed over a scene so there's an option to watch something else.
Another thing i have learnt is that certain production titles and industry details can be displayed for a longer duration than others to show that a certain company or person had more to do with the production.
The look i would like to achieve
The target audience for my genre is 18-25, this is due to the age group having the most disposable income and ages under 18 aren't allowed to watch violence that is involved in almost every gangster film.
My target audience will also be male as men usually tend to take more interest in all the violence and crime.
An 18 rated film usually consists of sexual content being very explicit, drug use shown in a graphic way and violence will be committed in demoralizing and inhumane ways which is evidently not suitable for a viewer that is younger.
A 15 year old rated film can entail all of the above but in a way that is not encouraging, not explicit and is all done with a milder approach. So gangster films tend to be very gruesome and the 18 rating is considerably acceptable.
